Cutting segments from video

I am very new to Smart Cutter (just downloaded it yesterday). I love the program so far but, I'm having a very basic problem. In trying to use it to edit some video from TV I can't get the segment cutter to work. For example, I mark the start of a commercial, then find the end of the commercial and mark it, then when I click the delete button it removes the blue line for the segment I identified for cutting instead of actually cutting the commercial out of the video. How do I actually cut the commercials out of the video? Thank you.

First please be noted, Smart Cutter works by saving video parts you wanted into result file, so as to remove unwanted video parts, such as commercials etc.
