Blocking artifacts at start of each cut/re-encoded part

Post by Ralle »

Hello,

I tried to cut .TS files recorded on my Dreambox DM800 DVB-S2-Receiver with SmartCutter 1.34

At the beginning of each cut, there are large blocks appearing, for a short time the picture is completely gray.

The garbage appears only inside re-encoded parts of the clip, so maybe there is a problem with the encoder or at the moment the re-encoded frames end and switch to not re-encoded original data ?

Here's a sample image:

Thanks for your help !

Dear Ralle:
Thanks for your message.

Could you please send us a video sample for a test?

It would be better if the sample file size is less than 100 MB.

If you can not find small sample, use this simple tool to split your movie file into small pieces, and upload any one of them.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-S ... rger.shtml
-------------------------------------
before uploading sample, please create sub-directory with your name under the root, then upload sample to this sub-directory.

FULL priviliged --- mkdir, read, write, remove
Will be helpful to limit the sample file size under 100MB.
Thank you.

Hi,

I just uploaded my original stream from my dreambox and also the cutted clip to your FTP-Server, directory Ralle.
I used WinRAR to split the original stream, I hope that's no problem.

Thank you.

Dear Ralle:
Thanks for your message.

Could you please try the cut movie in Smart Cutter, and see whether the artefacts are still there?

Looking forward to your further message.
Thank you very much.

I opened the cut movie in smart cutter and there were no artefacts at all.

Is this a player/decoder problem ?

My player is MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema) on Windows 7 x64. The H.264 decoder with the many artefacts is ffdshow with ffmpeg-mt. After I switched ffdshow to libavcodec the artifacts were heavily reduced, but still there, as you can see here:

Dear Team,

I have the same problem in some cutting using version 1.3.5 (or previous version), the problem only appear at the start of encoded portion.
I have uploaded one pair of problem sample. I cut Clip_original.ts from 00:00:03:039 to 00:00:20:000 and create Clip_cutted.ts
1. Clip_original.ts
2. Clip_cutted.ts

And I also uploaded one pair of no problem sample, I cut Clip_noproblem_original.ts from 00:00:03:040 to 00:00:20:000 and create Clip_noproblem_cutted.ts
3. Clip_noproblem_original.ts
4. Clip_noproblem_cutted.ts

Please take a look, and hope the problem can be solved. Thanks.

Dear Leo:
Thank you so much for the sample files and the detailed information.

We did re-produce the problem on our end.
We think we have found the root cause. Our developers are trying to fix this.

Please feel free to send us your further advice and suggestion.
Thank you very much.

I have had similar issues viewing H.264 in MPC-HC, especially if I pause and then resume playback. I found that increasing the "input buffer size" setting in the Haali Media Splitter (I changed it from 8192 to 20000) helped a lot.

The bug is existing also at .mpg files, but still more terribly.

I have uploaded to the serer directory "snipsnip" the test file "ConvertedFileHangs.mpg", the projekt file and the cut/converted file.
The converted file cannot be played with VLC Media Player, Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player.
After 4 seconds the video hangs or is concluded (Windows Media PLayer).
