Re: Specify file names Smart Cutter
I believe the answer is, if you don't link the files together, you'll have to rename them after they are created. Its been a while since I've split a file into seperate segments, but SC may offer you the opportunity to give the group of files an overall filename, but then SC appends a suffix "-...

Re: 1.4.3 crashes editing HD-DVR TS file
FYI, version 1.6.29353 is now Hauppauge's officially released latest version of their HD-PVR driver. Last I checked they have no new "beta" version in the works yet. I'm still using the original driver that came on my HD-PVR CD version 2.5 (not sure what driver version that is, but it came...

Re: 1.4.5 freezes when opening mpeg2 SD recording
The error message comes from the MS Visual C++ Runtime Library and says: Assertion failed! Program: D:\Smart Cutter\smart.exe File: facApi/facPreroll.c Line: 55 Expression: 0 FYI, that's the exact same error message I got when running a "bad" version of my Hauppauge's HD-PVR driver. I don...

Re: change bitrate in SmartCutter
If you desire to change the bit-rate (i.e.: compression level) of the video file, I believe you are looking for a function best served by a different software package. hi JohnnyB, thanks for your advice. But as per admin's reply above, "We raise the bitrate of the output so as to maintian a be...

Re: change bitrate in SmartCutter
My understanding of how SmartCutter works, which is one of its primary features, is that it achieves high processing rates and maximum video quality by NOT re-encoding the video stream and only re-encodes the frames near where edit cuts are made. In order to change the bit-rate of the entire video f...

Re: 1.4.3 crashes editing HD-DVR TS file
UPDATE: I did some more testing w/ Hauppauge's HD-PVR beta driver (1.6.29353). My conclusions are: 1) It produces .TS files that no longer causes SmartCutter to crash (1.4.1 on my laptop nor 1.4.3 on my desktop). 2) It still produces .TS files that either repeats frames or has something strange goin...

Re: 1.4.3 crashes editing HD-DVR TS file
UPDATE: I got a response from Hauppauge, they suggested trying the beta version of their newest driver (1.6.29353) that is available on their website: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/support_hdpvr.html I tried this out and it is much improved over the version 1.6.29277 driver: Smart Cutter no ...

Re: 1.4.3 crashes editing HD-DVR TS file
You might try contacting Hauppauge and let them know of your problems. That may add some pressure for them to fix their driver. Or at least they could provide you w/ the older driver. To re-install my older driver, I used Hauppauge's utility to scrub everthing off my installation, then re-installed ...

Re: inaccurate positioning
I did send Hauppague a message describing the problem w/ their new driver. As I mentioned in the update in the other post, I switched back to the original driver and no longer have the problem. Fortunately, I caught this pretty quickly and had only recored 2 programs w/ the newer driver (and like a ...

Re: 1.4.3 crashes editing HD-DVR TS file
UPDATE: I reverted my HD-PVR driver back to the original and the problem seems to have cured itself. Smooth scrolling to the desired cut frame is restored. Some additional info: When watching the .TS video created by the updated HD-PVR driver on my WD HDTV media player, there appears to be a jump (o...
