How to cut HD file without re-encoding...
High Definition video or HD video refers to any video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (SD) video, and most commonly involves display resolutions of 1,280×720 pixels (720p) or 1,920×1,080 pixels (1080i/1080p). It is nowadays widely applicated in television broadcast (HDTV), video recording formats (HDCAM, HDCAM-SR, DVCPRO HD, D5 HD, AVC-Intra, XDCAM HD, HDV and AVCHD), the optical disc delivery system Blu-ray Disc and the video tape format D-VHS.
This high level of resolution means it's tough to decode, which makes it especially difficult to edit in realtime. Formats like H264 are designed for acquisition and storage, not for editing. In the past, tough processing tasks could simply be solved with faster hardware, but editing native H.264 files in realtime is beyond most hardware configurations available at the time of writing.
Suppose you have recorded some HD files from the satellite but now you'd like to cut commercials out of the programs. What software can you use to do Frame Accurate cutting whithout reencoding the whole file?
Many simple editors cut at I frames. I frames can be spaced from every 12 frames (GOP duration) with half second accuracy to well over 300 frames (>10 sec) for many downloads.
Most professional video editors happily capture and store footage in such formats, but transcode it into something friendlier for editing.
Then what if you want to trim an video without re-encoding in order to preserve the original video with no quality loss and save time wasting in re-encoding?
Smart Rendering is an ability to Frame Accurately edit video file while avoiding decoding/coding of each video frame. As decoding/coding of each frame takes considerable amount of time, using of this ability will give you fantastic increase of file editing speed. Besides, this method of video editing saves 100% of original video and audio quality. Since H.264 AVCHD MPEG2 is lossy, any re-encoding to H264 will reduce the quality of the video.
