For the high quality performance, AVCHD camcorders have established their authority in high definition camera market. HD camcorders are becoming one essential part of people daily life. And usually we will make some recordings with some splitted clips or with one big one file. For smoothly playing and editing, we would like to join or split them.

However, this kind of camcorder record footages in the format of MTS and M2TS, which get no native supports from virtually all video editors.

After you bought a AVCHD camcorder, Canon S10 for example, you sure will want to edit the .mts files (HD, H.264) created by the camcorder losslessly - re-encoding around the cut to close the GOP is fine, but the application must not re-encode the whole file. And the editor should allow user to move back and forth frame-by-frame. The "editor" provided with the camcorder usually cannot do that. It's horrible.

What's interesting is that the very simple editor provided with the camcorder may seem to edit the AVCHD files losslessly. But it's a primitive editor - e.g. it's very hard to select the cut point with a precision of 1 frame. There's no way to move back or forward frame-by-frame.
